The -illion is a notation and naming system used to systematically generate number names after million in English, and has variants in many other languages. The system makes an n-illion to equal to 103n+3 in the short scale, and 106n in the long scale, where n is the Latin prefix for the number. The short scale is mainly used in English-speaking countries, while the long scale in most of Europe. Non-Germanic countries have their own variation, such as the Indian counting system or the Japanese counting system. Sometimes they even deviate from a decimal system at all (e.g. the Ndom counting system).
